Emissions from Cannabis Production

In Summer of 2022, the PLUME Van was deployed for the first time on road to measure the air quality situation in Richmond, Delta, and East Vancouver. These locations were selected based on their sources profile and number of complaints in the Smell Vancouver web application (https://smell-vancouver.ca/). With the PLUME Van, researchers at UBC were able to detect in real-time peaks in air pollution and regions prone to odors from a range of sources, including landfill operations, traffic, airport, and cannabis cultivation. This data is now being analyzed to (1) identify particle formation events and differentiate by presence of odors (or odorous sources) and not, (2) compare the overall air quality, with focus on ozone and ultrafine particles production for Delta district during the heatwave and under normal summer days, and (3) elaborate a Cumulative Hazard Index integrating high-frequency and high-spatial resolution air quality maps, Smell Vancouver data and Metro Vancouver monitoring network.
